EMERGENCY services are responding to reports of a car fire on the up-section of the Toowoomba Range.

Photos have emerged on social media of a vehicle engulfed in flames on the Warrego Hwy, and traffic cameras show congestion is building on the westbound lanes.

A thick plume of black smoke was visible about 1km from the scene of the incident west of the saddle.
