QUEENSLAND Fire and Emergency Services and Rural Fire Brigade crews are preparing for a challenging week as fire danger ratings soar across Capricornia.

Wind, temperature and humidity levels, combined with dry conditions, will align over the next four days to produce very high fire danger ratings throughout the region.

Multiple QFES and Rural Fire crews hit the ground running yesterday to battle five fires between Mt Morgan and Rockhampton and a further four between Ambrose and Tannum Sands.

Crews responded to reports of large grass fires at Paradise Lagoons, the Capricorn Country Club, Razorback Road, Nine Mile Creek, Struck Oil Rd, Gentle Annie Rd, Deep Creek Rd, Calliope and Butcher Rd.

The Razorback Rd and Nine Mile Creek blazes have been burning for a few days and are expected to continue to burn throughout the week.

Residents in the areas will be affected by a large smoke haze and are advised to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep medications close by.

Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.

If residents are concerned their property is under threat, they should call 000 immediately.

A QFES media spokesperson said residents should consider taking precautionary measures including putting on protective clothing, drinking lots of water, moving cars to a safe location, closing windows and doors and shutting blinds, bringing pets inside, restraining them with a leash or in a cage or secure room, and providing water.

"Residents should also consider wetting down fine fuels close to buildings, removing garden furniture, doormats and other items, sealing all gaps under doors and screens, filling containers with water - eg bath, sinks, buckets, wheelie bins, having ladders ready for roof space access (inside) and against roof (outside), having a generator or petrol powered pump ready and checking and patrolling outside for embers, extinguishing any spot fires and seeking shelter as the fire front arrives."

Regular updated information regarding these fires will be provided on the Rural Fire Service Queensland website at http://www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au or through local media.
