Queensland average daily maximum temperature to be 40

AS Queensland temperature gauges start to rise ahead of another week of high temperatures, one Emu has demonstrated how it likes to stay cool.

The video posted by Adelaide snake catchers of their pet Emu, Blacky, and has been viewed over 350,000 times on Facebook.

Most parts of Queensland are expected to have an average daily temperature of 40 over the course of this week, according to the forecast on the Bureau of Meteorology.

The site says there is a weak ridge of high pressure extends over eastern Queensland.

Ex-tropical cyclone Tatiana, now a strong extra-tropical low, is well east of the southern Queensland coast.

The system has recently been slow-moving, but is expected to begin to move to the north during today and the next few days.

A surface trough lies over the northern Peninsula district and extends to ex-tropical cyclone Tatiana.

Dry air near the surface combined with a stable upper pattern should keep much of the state fine for the next few days.

Tuesday and Wednesday look to be the hottest for most parts of the state with Rockhampton's forecast of a maximum temperature of 40 tomorrow and 39 on Wednesday.

The Wide Bay and Burnett forecast is similar with a top of 39 tomorrow and 36 on Wednesday.

The forecast for the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane shows the southeast coast should expect a maximum temperature of 39 tomorrow and 30 on Wednesday.

Mackay and the Whitsundays can expect a maximum of 39 tomorrow and 40 on Wednesday.
