Vladimir Putin announces divorce from his wife
RUSSIA'S President Vladimir Putin has announced that he and his wife of 30 years, Lyudmila, have divorced.
In an interview with the state TV channel Russia24 shortly after a visit to the ballet, President Putin said: "It was our joint decision, our marriage is over."
Standing next to the President, Mrs Putina was asked to confirm what her former husband had said. She said: "Yes, you can say that, this is civilised divorce.
"I do not like publicity, and the flights are complicated for me. We love our children, we are proud of them and see each other often," she said, adding that the pair "will always be friends".
"I am grateful that he supports me," she said.
