IT WAS a crowd pleaser at the PCYC on Saturday night when two big men went at it hammer and tongs in the super heavyweight senior main bout of the PCYC Rockhampton Amateur Boxing Tournament.

Rocky's Sam Walker made good on his promise of revenge on Mackay's Michael Barrett, winning the fight in a split points decision.

Walker's trainer, Des Upton said the crowd enjoyed every minute of the three-round fight.

"They are both big men and the crowd just loved it," Upton said.

"Sam wore a few, but the other bloke wore a lot more. Sam's win was very impressive. Barrett has fought 28 times, he's much more experienced and heavier than Sam and yet Sam was the better boxer," he said.

The win means Walker has the impressive, albeit short, record of four wins from five bouts. His only loss to Barrett when they fought for the first time in Mackay last year. Now, they are one apiece and a rematch is on the cards.

Walker said the fight was similar to the first, but this time he had the fitness to outpunch his opponent.

"It was another close fight, almost a a repeat of our first fight," he said.

"We whacked each other non-stop for three rounds.

"This time I was a lot fitter and landed more punches on him than he got on me.

"I definitely felt strong at the end, like I was wearing him down."

Delighted with the victory, but ever the perfectionist, Walker would have liked to have asserted his dominance more fully.

"I'm happy with the win.

"But I would have liked to win in a unanimous decision.

"As it was, I won with a split points decision so one judge felt he was the better boxer and I don't feel this was the case.

"Anyway, I got the win and we are one fight each.

"No doubt we'll have a decider."
