Waltzing into our world, Matilda

MATILDA Pearce came waltzing into the world early, right on Australia Day.

The true-blue Aussie baby of Barcaldine's Leisa and Andrew Pearce was born at Rockhampton Hospital at 12.26am on January 26, weighing 2.6kg.

Leisa said she and Andrew were debating calling their second daughter Millie, from either Matilda or Millicent, and Matilda made her feelings very clear on Australia Day.

Leisa said there was just no avoiding the signs.

She said her patriotic husband arrived half an hour after Matilda was born because he left Barcaldine late, going to rugby training instead of heading straight to Rockhampton, where Leisa was in hospital.

Matilda had the relaxed Aussie nature down pat straight away, having a feed and then sleeping contentedly only minutes after her birth.

"The pregnancy was really good," Leisa said.

"I wouldn't have even known I was pregnant if it wasn't for my ever-growing belly."

Matilda and her three-year-old sister Edith's futures are already mapped out by their dad.

"Andrew says they're going to be cricketers for Australia," Leisa said.
