Wanderers A1 women claim victory
JODIE Dwyer led her Wanderers A1 women to victory in Saturday's grand final game against Southside United at Kalka Shades.
It was third time lucky for the Wanderers A1 women when they took down Southside 3-1 after falling to Park Avenue and Southside in the last two grand finals.
Centre-half Dwyer teamed with Kate Hammett in the midfield, to lead the Wanderers side around the field against a tough Southside outfit.
The tight game saw Southside take an early lead with a goal from Shareena Sloan before a determined Wanderers dug deep to even the score and then run over the top of their season rivals with goals from Shannon Boswood, Kate Hammett and Kyla Kenny.
Wanderer's coach Scott Deeth credited the win to a full team effort and said it was their continued intensity that won them the game.
"It really was an overall great effort from the whole team," Deeth said.
"We played the whole game and kept our intensity which is something we haven't been able to do in previous games."
Deeth said he was very pleased with the outcome of the game considering the competitive Southside team won the semi-final game.
In the A1 Men's grand final, Wanderers took another win, defeating Southside 6-3.
Wanderers' six goals came from Todd Harmsworth with three and Aaron Harmsworth, Jordan Burtt and Aaron Thompson with one each.
Southside's goal scoring efforts came from Steven Snell with two goals and Nathan Christensen with one goal.
The Rockhampton hockey season has now come to an end with pre-season training beginning in late January.
