Wanderers win big with Shinji declaring allegiance to club
OH yes. It's just the news Western Sydney Wanderers supporters want to hear about Shinji Ono.
The club's Japanese midfielder comes off contract at the end of the season and said he's keen to stay on.
"My agent is talking to the club," Ono, who has scored four goals in 16 games this season, said.
"I want to stay. I love it here."
Wanderers' coach Tony Popovic confirmed contract talks were under way, but said the club would not rush into re-signing the 33-year-old.
"All along we've said that we're very happy with Shinji and obviously there's a process that needs to be taken," Popovic said.
"But he knows the club's desire and he knows my desire of wanting to keep him and we'll see if we can make that happen."
The Wanderers host Melbourne Heart at Parramatta Stadium today, and the visitors could regain Socceroo Eli Babalj for the clash.
The 20-year-old signed with leading Serbian club Red Star Belgrade last year, but with a portion of the transfer fee still unpaid, the Heart exercised its right to recall the attacking midfielder.
