7.15PM UPDATE: A dangerous thunderstorm is rolling east across the Darling Downs towards Toowoomba, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a severe weather warning.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that at 7.05 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near the area northwest of Oakey.

These thunderstorms are moving towards the east.

They are forecast to affect Oakey, Jondaryan and the area west of Oakey by 7:35 pm and Toowoomba, the area northwest of Toowoomba and Highfields by 8:05 pm.

Damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.

Meanwhile, 4 to 5 cm hail was observed at Fernvale.

Roof damage to houses was also reported from Fernvale.

Large hail was observed at Rosewood.

2:30 PM UPDATE: Storms are forecast for much of south west Queensland this afternoon. 

The latest warnings from the BOM cover parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast Forecast Districts.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones over the next several hours.

Locations which may be affected include Roma, Mitchell, Tambo, Rolleston, Injune, Carnarvon National Park, Warwick, Stanthorpe and Boonah. 

2:00PM A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for parts of south-west Queensland.

The warning was issued at 2pm today.

The bureau warns that parts of the Maranoa, Warrego and Central West districts may be affected by severe thunderstorms over the next several hours.
