Warrior Nathan Friend thinks about switch to continue career

HE MIGHT be 34, but Warriors hooker Nathan Friend says he has no intenton of hanging up his boots any time soon.

With the Auckland franchise signing Rabbitohs No.9 and Kiwi International Issac Luke for three years from next season, Friend knows he will get minimal game time.

But the 210-game veteran, who has endured 13 operations in his career with the Broncos, Storm, Titans and Warriors, said he would rather find a new club than become a 'bit part' player.

"Issac will be there and he'll be the No.1 hooker next year," Friend told APN.

"I guess I have to look elsewhere for another opportunity because I don't want to play second fiddle.

"I think I've got one more year left in this grade before I look elsewhere or overseas."

The diminutive Toowoomba product, who ran for 108m, made 33 tackles and scored a try against his former club the Gold Coast on Saturday night, said he was confident he was still up to the rigours of first grade.

"It's interesting when people talk about you, and they talk about your age," Friend said.

"But it's not really a factor in this day and age with the medical staff and recovery.

"I'm healthy and I'm enjoying the game, so that's the main thing - the rest just follows."

Warriors coach Andrew McFadden admitted it would be difficult to keep Friend at the club next year.

"We'll have to see about that. With Issac coming it's put a fair bit of competition on for our hooking spot," McFadden said.

"He (Luke) probably holds that spot so we're just working through that at the moment.

"He (Friend) is pretty freakish, the old fella. He just keeps going and going."
