Warriors debut for ex-Raider

FORMER Raiders utility Matt Allwood is set to become Warrior No.199 in the 20th anniversary match against the Broncos at Mt Smart Stadium on Sunday.

The Warriors made their NRL debut on March 10, 1995, losing 25-22 to a Wayne Bennett-coached Brisbane at the same venue.

Allwood, 22, debuted for Canberra in round one last year, playing the first nine games before being dropped following the team's 54-12 demolition by the Warriors in Auckland.

After revealing he had signed a three-year deal with the New Zealand outfit, Allwood was only given two more first grade games by coach Ricky Stuart.

So far this year he has played twice for the club's New South Wales Cup side - at centre and fullback - as well as being the NRL team's 18th man twice.

The match against the Broncos will see Allwood become the Warriors' seventh debutant already in 2015, following Solomone Kata, Ryan Hoffman, Bodene Thompson, Sam Lisone, Albert Vete and Jonathan Wright.

Allwood has been named in the centres in place of talented youngster Tuimoala Lolohea who has switched to fullback in the absence of Sam Tomkins (knee).

"Matt gives us NRL experience and is well versed in what we do," assistant coach Tony Iro said.

"He has trained in the centres throughout the off-season as well as playing in trials."
