Warwick man fights off home intruders

A MAN who stood up to a group of people that allegedly invaded his home early yesterday morning, escaped unhurt.

Police say "five or six" invaders kicked in the rear door of the home on Wilga Ave, Warwick about 4am, but left when they were confronted by the occupant.

"It's hard to say but it appears as though this was not a random attack," Warwick Sgt Cameron Slater said.

"Police are still investigating the incident and the cause.

"I don't think it's something the community should be concerned about (in terms of another incident) because reading between the lines, it appears as though this was linked to something else."

Sgt Slater said no charges had been laid at the time this story was published.

"We're expecting charges could well be laid, but no one is in custody or has been charged," he said.

"It is possible charges will be laid early in the week."

A Wilga Ave resident said they heard the incident.

"There were a couple of loud bangs and then we heard noises like someone was running," the resident said.

"All the dogs in the street were barking and then the police turned up a short time later.

"We saw the police drive up the street again later in the morning."

The resident said it was an unusual incident for the street.

"It's normally a quiet street and without incident," they said.

"It's a bit of a surprise but it could have been anything.

"We're not too worried about it, I'm sure the police will deal with it."

Sgt Slater said no weapon was yielded by any of the invaders and no one was hurt during the incident.

He said the home was undamaged - apart from the rear door - and nothing was taken from the property.
