Warwick officer covered in glass in 'serious assault'

A 29-YEAR-OLD man was charged with serious assault after allegedly kicking in the window of a police vehicle and covering a Warwick police officer in glass.

Sergeant Lisa Self said the Warwick man was originally arrested for a public nuisance offence about 3.15pm yesterday.

He was allegedly agitated and punching a letterbox on Albion St.

When he was arrested and placed in the police vehicle, the man then kicked the window and was charged with wilful damage and serious assault of a police officer.

Sgt Self said the officer did not appear to require treatment after the incident.

The alleged offender was taken to Warwick watch house and then released on bail.

He will appear at Warwick Magistrates Court on February 14.
