Wayne wins novice award for his garden

WAYNE Lauga's green thumb has earned him a win today after he was awarded the prize for Novice Garden under 12 months in the Livingstone Shire garden competition for his garden in Rockyview.

Today's gardening award is on top of a Master Builders House of the Year award for its category ($500,000 - $600,000) last month.

It was a big project after the damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Marcia in February, with Wayne tending to his greens for hours each week.

Wayne said he did the landscape design himself including the layout and planting scheme.

The garden includes a combination of over 600 plants including hedges and screening plants and feature plants, such as grass trees, yuccas and cordylines, producing different colours to create interest from the street.
