Weather decides sports gatherings

GLADSTONE Turf Club officials were confident late yesterday of racing today pending no further rain last night to add to the 80mm at Ferguson Park racecourse this week.

Club president David Weinert said the indicators were that the weather was clearing, but if the meeting could not proceed today approval had been given for the program to be run tomorrow.

Another event that has predictably fallen foul of the weather is local cricket.

A Twenty20 competition was meant to begin on Thursday with matches in two combined grades played throughout the weekend.

However, the soaking the wickets at the Rockhampton Cricket Ground have had this week has resulted in these rounds being deferred.

Yesterday afternoon the CQDMBA decided not to cancel fixtures in the Classic Challenge with organisers hoping the late change in conditions will continue overnight, leaving rinks playable.
