Rocky and Yeppoon business enters Kochie's Business Builders
THE best way owner of Bling Bling Costume Hire Ren Roby can describe her business website is "old".
The owner of the costume hire stores, located in both Rockhampton and Yeppoon, said she hadn't had her website updated in the past five years, which is why she decided to enter the Rescue My Site competition.
Rescue My Site is a national competition being run throughout Season Eight of Kochie's Business Builders on Channel 7.
Nominated in the Local Legend category, Ren said she saw Kochie's TV segment one Sunday morning recently and nominated immediately.
"The website hasn't been updated in five years which is obsolete in today's world of technology," she said yesterday. "We really need this to put us in good stead with our online shoppers, locally and all over the world."
Shipping her huge range of costume stock to places like Japan and Los Angeles as well as all over the country, Ren said her website was really important to attracting shoppers and showing off her stock.
"For example we're one of the only places that stock the Xotic Eyes (wearable eyelid art), which people order from us from overseas," she said.
"Most people are on the internet now, and we just want to get as much community support as we can for this local business."
But Ren's not the only one. When it comes to an online presence, Australian small businesses are lagging way behind; with fewer than 50% having any website at all, even though having a website makes you twice as likely to be growing.
The winner of the competition will receive a $25,000 website makeover; $25,000 will go towards the local legend winner and $10, 000 for people's choice award.
