Livingstone community to experience 'Animating Spaces'
From The Capricorn Coast Mirror
WITH less than a month to go, Animating Spaces Yeppoon: Changing Tides is shaping up to provide an exciting arts experience in the Livingstone community.
Three arts events will be delivered on Friday, July 11, and Saturday, July 12.
Keppel Coast Arts has been working with local artists, chosen to engage with community members through workshops and then present projects as part of the big event.
Animating Spaces will start with High Tide at Yeppoon beachfront on Friday, July 11, from 5-8pm.
This will be an explosion of colourful flags designed by local children, as well as bright lanterns constructed by textile artists Anni Simmons and Nanette Balchin.
Grab a takeaway tea or bring a picnic; you won't want to miss this evening high tide with a full moon and brilliant display of flags and lanterns.
Come to Beaman Park on Saturday afternoon, July 12, from 1-5pm and take a look Through the Porthole, a journey in ceramics exploring the significant landmarks and coastal features of Keppel Bay.
Artists Renton Bishopric, Kim Warcon and Clare Botfield will create clay artworks from digital images, designed to portray the view one would see if travelling along the coastline by boat.
These artworks, along with others by local high school students, will be presented in an art trail through Beaman Park in Yeppoon CBD.
The artists aim to highlight the region's spectacular coastline and initiate what has the potential to become a cultural tourism asset for the Capricorn Coast.
This will be followed by Digital Drifting on Saturday evening, July 12, from 5.30-7.30pm.
Turn your attention to the front of Yeppoon Town Hall, where this large-scale projection - from Peter and Emily Szilveszter, of Living Lens, with the assistance of Hughi Simmons - will provide a spectacle of light, colour, sound and movement to draw the viewer into an immersive experience.
Digital Drifting will encourage people to take another look at the significance of Yeppoon's town areas and elements within.
The project is not just about history but will include content from the past and present - it is more about capturing the true essence of life on the coast.
Animating Spaces is a statewide, multi-arts initiative designed to revitalise and celebrate significant or unusual spaces within regional communities. For further information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
