Thieves went though a window sealed for 20 years to rob The Great Western Hotel.

Weekend's cash taken in theft

A 2.4 METRE door and a window that had been sealed for 20 years was not enough to stop brazen thieves robbing a Rockhampton hotel yesterday.

The robbers made away with a significant amount of the Great Western Hotel's weekend takings when they broke in between 5 and 6am.

They scaled the foot door, jemmied open a security screen that was hidden from cameras and pried open a window that had been sealed for two decades.

Great Western Hotel co-owner Ross Ford said despite activating an alarm, the robbers got in and out quickly.

"It was people that knew the operation," he said.

But Mr Ford said fairly clear CCTV footage of the thieves else

where in the hotel during the robbery had been passed to police.

"It's a family-oriented hotel. We cater for parents and children, and we support local sports," he said.

"We are very disappointed someone saw fit to do this to us."

Police urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
