Sunshine Coast the "healthiest place on Earth" by 2030?

DEBATING the Coast's identity can start to sound a bit like a broken record.

"Who are you?

"We don't want to be the Gold Coast."

"Yes, but who are you?"

"We don't want to be the Gold Coast."

After the guidance and vision of 1000 Coast youth, a new tune has been chosen.

The Sunshine Coast will be world famous as the "healthiest place on Earth".

Today, 200 of the Coast's heavy-hitters from education, government, business and community will gather at the Sunshine Coast Futures Conference at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

They'll learn about where we're going but then be told to roll their sleeves up and tell us how we're going to get there.

The Futures Conference, now in its sixth year, is jointly organised by USC and Sunshine Coast Council.

Generation Innovation, led by founder and chairman Ted O'Brien, interviewed and surveyed the 1000 young locals in the "largest future visioning exercise of its kind ever undertaken in the region" in preparation for today's conference.

"Our future starts today," Mr O'Brien said.

"While our future visioning exercise painted a picture of how the younger generation see the region in the year 2030, today's Futures Conference will determine how we get there."

The day-long event will include international experts in regional development Ed Morrison and Robert Greenwood and will be chaired by the Daily's Jenna Cairney.

Mr Morrison will lead a "strategic doing" workshop aimed at cementing measurable outcomes.

"You are designing for the next generation," Mr Morrison said.

"Your real client, if you will, is seven months old.

"You are planting seeds for trees you may not see.

"You are building your legacy and that's a pretty high calling.

"If we don't do it, who is going to?"
