Wellington to tell rally to vote against LNP

NICKLIN independent Peter Wellington will tell an anti-VLAD law freedom rally in Brisbane on Sunday to use the upcoming by-elections in the state seat of Redcliffe and Griffith federally to send a clear message to the Newman Government.

Mr Wellington urged voters not to waste their ballot papers out of anger but to get smart, number every box and put the LNP last.

His Facebook page is now receiving 100,000 clicks a week from people angry at the anti-association laws.

Mr Wellington has reposted several Sunshine Coast Daily articles with 32,704 viewers clicking on the editorial, Bleijie backflip scores perfect 10, and 19,448 on the story, Back off Newman.

More than 12,000 people have already read an article written earlier this week by Mr Wellington.

He said yesterday that a campaign had never been run in Queensland urging voters to put one party last.

"The Newman Government isn't listening to the opinions of eminent Australians who are all critical of the legislation,'' Mr Wellington said.

"The Premier and Jarrod Bleijie aren't listening to the thousands of Queenslanders. They need to be given the biggest wake-up call possible.''

He said there had been an increasingly significant protest vote at recent state and federal elections with people writing protest messages on ballot papers rendering them worthless.

"The Government doesn't care about anyone else's opinion on this issue,'' Mr Wellington said.

"It's not listening.

"It needs to be hit hard in the two by-elections.

"This is a chance for the community to exercise its power.

"I don't care who wins whether it be the Katter Party, an independent or Labor. I can work with all of them."

Mr Bleijie accused Mr Wellington of "flip-flopping over criminal gangs".

He said the "unhealthy obsession" was not supported by most Queenslanders.

"Our anti-gang laws, which Peter Wellington supported in Parliament, target only criminals, yet the Member for Nicklin and gang members are spreading fear and misinformation about them. Innocent people have nothing to worry about,'' he said.
