Wembley woes continue for Spurs in Champions League

FOOTBALL: Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino offered no excuses as his side's Champions League hopes nosedived following a second straight defeat at Wembley.

Spurs are playing at England's national stadium while White Hart Lane is undergoing an upgrade but this 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen now means the side has lost all six of its games there in all competitions.

Pochettino said his team played badly to slip to third in the group behind Monaco and Leverkusen but said the performance had nothing to do with a supposed Wembley "curse”.

"We were poor. I have nothing to say about Wembley, we were poor,” he said.

"If we analyse the game we created the same number of chances and have more possession but the feeling was always that is was difficult to score.

"We don't have the freedom to play and show real quality. After two games at Wembley, both have been poor. It is not an excuse, it is the truth.”

There was better news for English Premier League champion Leicester City, which moved closer making the knockout stages with a goalless draw at FC Copenhagen.

The Foxes need just a point from their final two matches in Group G to ensure qualification in their inaugural Champions League campaign.

They have not conceded a goal in four games and remain top of the group, three points ahead of Porto.

In other games, Real Madrid drew 3-3 in Poland against Legia Warsaw in front of an empty stadium after the Polish club was sanctioned for crowd trouble in its previous game.

Borussia Dortmund won 1-0 against Sporting Lisbon to qualify for the next stage, while FC Porto had a 1-0 success over Club Brugge, which remains winless.

Sevilla defeated Dinamo Zagreb 4-0 while Juventus and Lyon drew 1-1.
