Wendy and Kate tour CQ raising funds for local organisations
ICONIC '90s singer Wendy Matthews is heading to Central Queensland.
The award-winning singer will take part in six concerts that are being held from Mt Morgan, to Yeppoon and Moranbah.
Rockhampton singer Kate Leahy has put the concert series together and is excited to have the chance to tour and sing with the icon that is Wendy.
A few lucky Rockhampton musicians will join in as Wendy's band for the shows.
This includes Stephanie Quinlan on bass guitar, Ryan Conway on rhythm guitar and Logan Brewster on drums.
And the community will be benefiting directly from the concert, with the proceeds of all ticket sales going straight back into the community.
"For each show all of the profits from ticket sales stay with the community," Kate said.
"For instance, the show in Yeppoon will see the money go to Keppel Coast Arts; in Rocky it's the Rockhampton Leagues Club that supports sports; and in Mt Morgan it's their promotions and development organisation."
Kate said the idea of giving back to the communities came to her when she tried to tour a few years ago in the aftermath of the floods.
"The towns I wanted to go to at that time had just been flooded and I said to myself, 'this won't work if people buy tickets and there's nothing in it for them', and that's when I came up with this idea," Kate said.
Before each performance Wendy and Kate will also offer free information sessions about their success and insights into the music industry.
There will also be an opportunity for a musician from each town to perform a song with Wendy.
