Wetlands play vital role

WITH all the rain over the last week, Bicentennial Lagoon in Emu Park is looking spectacular with plenty of bird life taking advantage of the ideal conditions.

Celebrate World Wetlands Day with a fun and free community event at Bicentennial Lagoon opposite Bell Park this Sunday.

The wetlands event will run from 9am to 1pm and will showcase information on wetlands and why they are such an important part of our ecosystems.

Free bus tours to nearby Kinka Wetland will give people an opportunity to see a constructed fish passage designed to assist the migration of breeding fish.

Learn more about birdlife from Birdlife Capricornia which will give you the chance to try bird watching.

Wetlands play a vital role as water catchments, fish nurseries and a food source for birds and animals.

The event is hosted by Emu Park Community Bushcare Group, Fitzroy Basin Association Inc (FBA), Fitzroy River Coastal Catchments (FRCC) and Rockhampton Regional Council.
