WITH multiple sports on in Yeppoon over the weekend, Rhino MMA head coach Nathan O'Connor was worried his fifth Battle at the Beach would not be a success.

He couldn't have been more wrong.

Over 600 spectators packed into the outdoor ring to witness and "amazing standard" of fighting and sportsmanship.

"It was massive, the biggest crowd we have ever had and the hardest of fights," a thrilled O'Connor claimed.

"The races, football all day, and the Capras game that night, I was very worried and concerned but the turnout amazed me.

"We had draws, losses and wins, all the fighters came to bang.

"Amazing standard, lots of knockouts and TKOs, they came to finish off their opponents."

O'Connor had no doubt that the fight of the night belonged to Dale Galloway and Clayton Cullen, who staged an "absolute war".

"These staged three rounds throwing bombs and receiving bombs, it was the fight of the night for sure," he said.

"They are both locals and know each other well but just gave it to each other. Clayton won in the end but they were both winners. It's not often you get a standing ovation from the crowd but these two did.

"Both made their fighting debuts at a battle at the beach and have shown vast improvement since then, they were awesome."

BNBC's Randal Blake won the opening bout of the night defeating local Rhino fighter Steven Hammond.

"Had a blast in front of an insane crowd," Blake said.

"I felt a bit sloppy but did well not to get in a brawl with him.

"Second biggest crowd I have fought in, was awesome.

"I've only been fighting for 18 months, before that it was just at school being naughty."

Mackay MMA's Joel Danger won the welterweight title fight over Mace Robinson and Zach Byrnes from KOBRA won the light heavyweight title against Josh McConachy.

"Zach is the Nate Diaz of Yeppoon, he just rocks up and performs every time," a stunned O'Connor said.

"He only trains in his backyard, just has the heart and soul of a fighter."

Rhino MMA's next fight night is scheduled for later in the year but keep an eye out for their fighters at Rockhampton's Great Western Hotel on May 7.
