TAILA Gouge will always stay true to her country roots, but she's keen to rock out to different genres - even pop.
And that's exactly what she did Monday night.
The Moranbah teen blew the judges away when she sang Pink's hit 'Who Knew' on the live finals of the TV show The Voice.
"It was great to see the judges faces light up," Taila said.
"I was so excited to sing this song, Joel (Madden) thought it'd be really cool for my voice and it's a song I could connect to."
The 17-year-old has had a whirlwind few weeks, preparing for the competition and jetting to LA with fellow competitors and coach Joel Madden.
"Joel took us to California; we chilled out, went sightseeing, and he mentored us," Taila said.
While Taila is no stranger to singing on stage, she said the production of the live show was unlike anything she'd ever seen.
"I've never been involved in anything like this and it's a great experience, I'm learning everyday," she said.
Taila needs her fans to vote this week, after fellow team member Frank Lakoudis was made safe from elimination.
"Frank owned that performance and I was happy that he got to go through," Taila said.
"He's a good friend, I was proud and he deserved to be saved."
Taila is looking forward to next week despite an elimination looming.
"It puts me in a great position though, because I want to see how many people are enjoying my music," she said.
Taila isn't lacking support, saying she can hear her hometown cheering all the way in Sydney.
"The town is going ballistic with all their voting and my high school are coming together to take part in a big voting session during class," Taila said.
"I'm so stoked about the support."
