Why police had to issue warning to 'Pokémon trainers'

IF YOU haven't already started seeing Charmander and Pikachu in your lounge room, down the street or in your office - you're missing out.

The latest game released just yesterday by the makers of the popular television series Pokémon has nerds and in-denial-nerds frothing over the new game which uses your location to determine which Pokemon characters you can collect.

Think of it like this: you're in the main street and a couple of characters pop up on the game which you can collect. Walk 100m down the road, another might appear. Head back home and another might be waiting for you on your driveway. Or if you're in Darwin - head to the local police station and you'll be able to get a Sandshrew!

The station is marked as a PokéStop in Pokémon Go - a collection point for Pokéballs, characters and other collectables.

After many visits from locals walking into the station to collect their gear, and walking back out, the police released a statement on Facebook:

"For those budding Pokémon Trainers out there using Pokémon Go - whilst the Darwin Police Station may feature as a PokéStop, please be advised you don't actually have to step inside in order to gain the Pokéballs. It is also a good idea to look up, away from your phone and both ways before crossing the street. That Sandshrew isn't going anywhere fast. Stay safe and catch 'em all!"

Brilliant.
