Wilson to clash with CJ Hobgood at Fiji Pro

COOLUM Beach's Julian Wilson is set to clash with CJ Hobgood in round two of the Fiji Pro today, after watching some of the sport's big names progress to round three yesterday.

Eleven-time world champion Kelly Slater produced a standout performance at Cloudbreak.

The three-time Fiji Pro winner claimed a 18.70 to 9.47 win over Australian wildcard Jay Davies, to remain in the event, which is the fifth stop on the 11-stop World Surf League Championships Tour.

Ratings leader, Brazilian Adriano de Souza staved off local wildcard Inia Nakalevu.

Felipe Toledo, who is second in the race for the world title, edged Fiji's Aca Ravulo 10.70 to 8.86.

"It was really scary because he (Ravulo) really knows the wave and has a lot of experience out here," Toledo said.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Coast teenager Isabella Nichols scored some valuable World Qualifying Series rankings points at the 6000-point Los Cabos Open of Surf in Mexico.

She was eliminated in round five, as was fellow Coaster Dimity Stoyle.
