Woman allegedly glasses man

A 22-YEAR-OLD woman has been charged with grievous bodily harm after allegedly stabbing a man in the stomach with a broken bottle on a Rockhampton street early yesterday.

Police said an emergency call was made by a 23-year-old man at 4.20am.

Paramedics and police who answered the call found the victim outside Rockhampton Regional Library in Bolsover St with what a senior officer described as a significant wound to his midriff.

He had emergency surgery at Rockhampton Hospital yesterday morning and his condition was later described as stable.

The alleged attacker, Wakada Chenoa Grant, was spotted and picked up shortly after by police, not far from where the man was found.

She appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon.

The court was told that Grant grabbed a glass bottle, smashed it on a concrete pillar and thrust it into the man's mid-section.

Police prosecutor Matthew Heelan said the resulting wound was up to 20cm long and stretched from his middle to his chest, almost deep enough to expose his stomach cavity.

Magistrate Tom Bradshaw adjourned the hearing until tomorrow and said he wanted to discover more about the severity of the man's injuries and whether he was likely to survive.

Grant was remanded in custody and is expected to apply for bail, which prosecutors have indicated they will oppose.
