Woman and child hurt as stolen car crashes

A WOMAN and a young boy were injured in a crash involving a stolen rental car at Raceview overnight.

Paramedics were called to the crash near the hockey grounds on Huxham St about 9.40pm, treating a boy for facial injuries and a woman for chest injuries.

Police say a man fled into bushland near Reedy Ck after the crash, leaving the injured behind.

The dog squad was sent in to track the man, following a track to Warwick Rd, but ultimately failing to locate the suspect.

The vehicle was a 2015 Hyundai Elantra - a hire car that had not been returned - and it was later towed away.

Both the injured were taken to Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition.

Police later attended the hospital to interview the woman.

Investigations are continuing.
