Man held dying wife in arms after bike collided with emu
A MAN held his dying wife as emergency services arrived at the scene of a horrific motorcycle accident in Emerald on Tuesday.
The 58-year-old woman was riding in the side car of the motorcycle when it collided with an emu on Selma Rd about 4.15pm.
The man, 64, braked and swerved off the road when the bird jumped out from the bush onto the roadway. Police said he walked some metres from where he was thrown off the bike to be with his wife but she died at the scene.
The man was airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital with cuts and abrasions and possible fractures to his ribs and collarbone. The couple were from Townsville.
