Woman drowns while snorkelling off Lady Elliot Island

A woman has drowned off Lady Elliot Island while snorkelling.

Around 10am this morning the 60-year-old went snorkelling with three other people.

Around 11.30am she became distressed and an alarm was raised.

It took them 20 minutes to get her back to the beach, where CPR commenced and Triple 0 was called.

Tragically paramedics pronounced her deceased when they arrived.

The lady is not believed to be a local.
