Woman flees violent attack by her partner while driving

A WOMAN was lucky to escape the clutches of a man who is alleged to have attacked her while they were travelling in a car together south-west of Toowoomba.

Police were alerted to the situation after the woman sought help from workers at the Pampas Roadhouse on the Gore Hwy about 5pm Friday.

The woman and man had been travelling together when police allege he became violent, grabbing the woman around the throat before he stopped the vehicle and both got out.

Police allege the man then assaulted the woman before she managed to get back inside the vehicle and drive about 10km to the roadhouse to seek help.

"A lady had driven to the roadhouse with facial injuries seeking assistance because she had been assaulted," Pittsworth police Officer-in-Charge Sergeant Rob Patterson said.

"We patrolled back to where she told us where the incident happened at Scrubby Mountain."

Police allege they located the man along Kincora Rd at Scrubby Mountain who, on seeing the police vehicle, attempted to run from officers into a nearby wheat paddock.

He was arrested and taken to Toowoomba watch house awaiting his appearance in court yesterday.

Police allege they located a purse and a sum of cash in the man's possession which police allege had been taken from the woman.

The woman was initially treated at Millmerran Hospital for facial injuries before being transported to Toowoomba Hospital for further scans and tests.

The man's lawyer Kevin Rose told Toowoomba Magistrates Court his client wasn't required to be brought into court from the watch house as he wouldn't be making any application for bail at this stage.

He was not required to enter any pleas to charges of robbery, assault occasioning bodily harm and traffic offences.

Magistrate Damian Carroll therefore remanded the man in custody to appear by video link for a committal mention in the same court on February 5.
