Alleged frypan bandit gets birthday bail gift

A WOMAN who allegedly stole a car at Mooloolaba after holding up the victim while armed with a frying pan has been granted bail.

Sheree Janine Brown celebrated her 36th birthday yesterday by getting out of the watchhouse.

Ms Brown is charged with attempted robbery while armed, robbery with violence while armed, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle over an alleged incident outside Mooloolaba State School about 6pm last Friday.

A 58-year-old woman was allegedly threatened with a frying pan by a woman who demanded her car keys and then drove off.

Police opposed bail and Magistrate Cliff Taylor said he would not ordinarily grant it to someone on such charges although the circumstances were "unusual".

Mr Taylor acknowledged indications that Ms Brown had issues related to substance use for which she may not get assistance if remanded in custody.

Ms Brown's release was subject to several conditions including that she not consume alcohol or illicit drugs while on bail. She will appear in court on November 3.
