Young mum killed in freak accident at shop carpark

SHOP owners at the East Ipswich complex where a 33-year-old woman was killed in a freak accident in the centre car park were in shock yesterday.

Thai Silver Key restaurant worker Yupin Wanput died after being pinned to a wall when a parked car somehow rolled about 20m down the centre driveway Thursday afternoon.

Police said the Redbank woman's five-year-old daughter was nearby when the accident happened.

A sign on the restaurant door advised customers they would close for the weekend "due to family matters".

The woman had been taking the rubbish out as she did every afternoon.

Nearby store owner Kirstyn Smart from H2O Babies said she knew nothing of the incident until she heard the ambulance arrive.

"I'm still in shock," she said. "I couldn't sleep last night. I couldn't stop thinking about it.

"It was a freak accident. It only took 30 seconds.

"She took the rubbish out every afternoon as we do. It could have been any one of us."

As with other retailers at the shopping complex, Ms Smart said they did not have much contact with Ms Wanput as the restaurant opened at 5pm as they closed.

Inspector Keith McDonald said the parked car rolled down the driveway to the back of the shopping complex at the corner of Tongue St and Brisbane Rd, about 4.45pm.

The vehicle owner was inside the nearby hairdresser's shop at the time.

Insp McDonald said police were investigating what caused the car to roll.

The woman was pinned against a three brick high retaining wall and fence in the centre's carpark as police arrived at the scene.
