Woman airlifted after 'near drowning' at popular island
HERON Island is one of the jewels in Gladstone's crown but for one tourist it almost ended in disaster.
RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service responded to reports of a woman who nearly drowned at Heron Island late on Tuesday afternoon.
The rescue service was called out at about 4.30pm and airlifted a 64-year-old woman "after a near drowning episode".
The woman, who was from New South Wales, was transported to Rockhampton after paramedics were concerned about "possible salt water aspiration".
"The patient was monitored by the RACQ Capricorn Rescue medical crew and remained in a stable condition," an RACQ spokeswoman said.
