Man poured petrol over woman, threw a glass table at her

DETAILS of David John Nicoll's alleged horror attack on a 54-year-old female victim came to light in Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday morning.

The 45-year-old from Yeppoon faced court on four counts of common assault, and one count each of torture, attempting to injure by noxious substance, assault occasioning bodily harm, wilful damage and obstructing police.

The court heard that from Friday night to Saturday afternoon, Nicoll allegedly assaulted and tortured his victim in a caravan at the residence.

On Friday night, Nicoll allegedly tried to tip a 44-gallon drum of fire over his victim's head before kicking her in the knee, head butting her, pouring petrol over her head and approaching her with a lighter, throwing an ashtray at her and trying to throw a glass table at her.

It is alleged Nicoll also dragged his sleeping victim from her bed by the feet in the early hours of Saturday morning.

On Saturday afternoon, Nicoll allegedly gouged his victim in the eyes through a car window before dragging her from the car, kicking her and dragging her by her arms for 10m.

The police prosecutor said police attended a Bowlin Rd, Port Curtis, residence just before 4pm on Saturday after receiving a 000 call.

Nicoll fled into bushland and after failing to comply with police requests to surrender, he was tracked by the police dog squad and apprehended, the court heard.

Magistrate Michael O'Driscoll refused bail on the grounds Nicoll was an unacceptable risk to the public. He was remanded in custody and will reappear on May 13.

The victim is seeking medical assistance.
