Woolworths takeover of Kondari Resort complete

THE Woolworths takeover of Kondari Resort has finally been settled and it's business as usual for the hotel in Urangan.

Ross Blair-Holt, director and chief operating officer of Woolworth's pub arm Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group, confirmed last month the company's purchase of Kondari, which has only now been finalised.

The resort, which includes a pub and restaurant, accommodation and the four Liquor Lads bottle shops, has been owned by Independent Pub Group since 2008 after it was snapped up in a multi-venue deal worth $65 million.

While ALH spokesman David Curry said there would be minimal changes, he confirmed that each of the Liquor Lad bottle shops would be rebranded as the Woolworths' own bottle shop brand, BWS.

"The detached bottle shops will be rebranded as BWS but we don't have any immediate plans other than to make sure the venue is presented in the best possible fashion and to implement a good range of beverages both local and imported and also to introduce what we pride ourselves on which is a really solid food offering," he said.

"The menu will be reviewed.

"We have the Graziers brand steak which is a really popular brand of steak that we have produced to specifications.

"It's going to be all business as usual."

Mr Curry was unable to disclose the amount the resort was purchased for, saying it is against company policy to discuss financial details. However, he did confirm that there will be no major changes to employment at this stage.

The Kondari was once considered the region's most iconic venue, attracting big name acts such as INXS and Jimmy Barnes.
