X Factor entrant returns home

AARON Russell headed back to work in Rockhampton yesterday with his head held high after finishing up on Channel 7's X Factor.

But it was not quite on the high note he had hoped.

Aaron, 25, missed a spot in the final 24 on the show while brother Zach, 22, managed to scrape through.

Evidently, on Wednesday night's show, Zach was heartbroken when he found out his brother wasn't making it through to the final rounds.

But Aaron yesterday said his exit didn't mean he was giving up on a career in the music industry.

His fame and talent on the hit show has resonated across the Australian entertainment industry as he has received phone calls to audition for television roles, he said.

"I haven't pursued any of them (acting roles) yet but I hope to do as much gig work as possible," he said.

Aaron, who works at Rockhampton's Australian Air Express, flew to Brisbane earlier this year for his first audition before he and his younger brother performed live in front of the judges at The Gold Coast.

He said he wasn't too prepared in the first rounds of the competition but if he was to re-enter the competition next year, which was highly likely, he would be readier than ever, mentally and vocally.

"I auditioned because I didn't want to keep doing music without knowing that I could actually make it," he said.

"The experience was great." Aaron and his mum, Chris Russell, who is a pastor with The Rockhampton Church of Praise, told The Morning Bulletin yesterday they had a lot of confidence in Zach as he headed into the final 24 round.

Although they weren't allowed to say much, it is believed Zach had headed overseas to be mentored by a well-known band.
