Coffee lovers now know how to say Yeppoon and where it is
At the beginning of The Coffee Club's recent awards' night, not many people knew how to pronounce Yeppoon, let alone where it was.
But by the end of the evening everyone knew how to say Yeppoon, according to The Coffee Club Yeppoon Esplanade owner Ravi Ramswarup.
After starting the popular restaurant only three years ago, Ravi and his wife Vanessa added two more awards to the Franchise of the Year - New Store award they won in 2010.
They received the National Marketing and Most Improved awards and were the only store to take home two awards.
They faced off against 300 stores in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, New Caledonia and China at the International Coffee Club & Ribs & Rump Awards.
"We get a mystery shopper every month," Ravi said. "They test you on absolutely everything."
He praised his team of 35 workers for their solid effort. "We've been lucky with our core staff," Ravi said. "Many of them have stayed with us since the start. It's been great watching them grow."
Ravi said they had cultivated many loyal clients, with some people driving from Rockhampton to have dinner there at least once a week.
Ravi and Vanessa can understand why their clients seek a slower pace at the perfectly positioned restaurant - across from Yeppoon's main beach. "I've had a good career in hotels and hospitality," Ravi said. "But owning your own business and having such a wonderful team is great."
Ravi and his team run on modesty. "Strive for excellence. The moment you think you're the bee's knees, you're going to fall really hard," he said.
