Yeppoon’s Jamie is hooked on spearfishing

THE Yeppoon coastline always leaves Jamie Wootton breathless.

The 22-year-old spearfisher loves his sport and is constantly in awe of the ocean.

"There are many reasons why I love spearfishing. When you are down there you can see so many things that you wouldn't normally see above water," he said.

"It really is a whole different world down there. From swimming with turtles, whales, sharks and of course lots of fish, you see something different every time you dive... it's hard to get bored when you're diving, there's usually something going on."

For Jamie, the appeal isn't just the diving but the hunting as well.

"When you're actually spearing fish, you get a sense of achievement from the experience. You can take it home and share it with your family and friends," he said.

Jamie dives most weekends with a group of friends.

"We all love it; the feeling you get from being under the water is unlike anything else you can do," he said.
