Youi under NZ watchdog scrutiny

ONE of the Sunshine Coast's largest employers, Youi, has been issued a "please explain" by the Insurance Council in New Zealand.

It follows by the Commerce Commission into the insurance giant's sales techniques.

A Commerce Commission spokesman said the investigation was launched in March 2015 "after a number of complaints".

"The current investigation involves 27 complainants," he said.

"These included claims Youi was requesting credit card details from individuals who were seeking quotes, and initiating allegedly unauthorised direct debits from those credit cards.

"We have now concluded the investigation process but are not yet in a position to discuss our findings or the outcome publicly."

Youi CEO Danie Matthee told the Daily the investigation was only taking place in New Zealand and neither the South African or Australian branches were included.

He said he was working with the Commission towards an outcome.

Youi announced in March 2015 it would built its global headquarters at Sippy Downs, which would employ its 900 staff and more as the company expanded its operations.
