THE young man killed in a horrific crash at Vale View was a gifted racehorse trainer and track worker with a big career ahead of him.

Brent Talbot, 33, had worked in racing stables around Queensland, making a living through track work and training racers.

Mullet, as he was affectionately known, spent a large part of that career working in Rockhampton and was a regular at Callaghan Park and had enjoyed some time in the winner's circle.

Friends and family have paid tribute to the man they remember as an amazing horseman dedicated to the industry about which he was passionate.

"One of the most kind-hearted, happy-go-lucky people anyone would ever meet," friend Craig Howell wrote.

"Loved a punt and loved his horses."

They have recalled times when Mr Talbot slept in the stables to keep a watchful eye on his favourite horse.

Despite a few troubles in the racing industry and a state-wide ban imposed a year ago, Mr Talbot was due to return trackside after the restriction expired tomorrow.

Funeral arrangements are being finalised but an open invitation to members of the Queensland racing industry has been extended by his family.

The funeral date is not yet known as investigations into the crash in which he was killed continue.

Mr Talbot leaves behind a young son in Maryborough.

Investigations into the crash, which occurred about 12.30pm on Wednesday at the intersection of Newman Rd and Drayton Connection Rd at Vale View, are continuing.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
