Young stars set to make impact

PARK Avenue Brothers junior stars Lachlan Plant and Jordyn Watson are among a host of Rockhampton's brightest young hockey players that will take Mackay by storm this weekend.

Lachlan, 9, and Jordyn, 11, don the colours of Rockhampton at the annual under age titles where they take on teams from Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Gladstone in under 11, 13 and 16 boys and girls teams.

For many of the youngsters it's their first taste of full field hockey, with teams playing six to seven 30 minute matches over the two days.

Two Rockhampton teams in each age will contest the titles and under 9 boys' coach David Plant confident in Rockhampton's chances.

“There's some good little players in there,” he said.

“It's about more than that though. It helps them experience rep hockey.”
