Retired buses could become cafes, classrooms
WE'VE all heard of recycling household goods such as cans, bottles and even mobile phones, but what about buses?
Instead of sending them straight to the bus graveyard, Young's Bus Service is seeking suggestions for re-using four of its retired buses in the Central Queensland area.
From cafes to classrooms, the Central Queensland transport company has been flooded with suggestions since it put a call out for ideas on social media over the weekend.
Popular bus recycling suggestions included a luxurious open-air restaurant for any CQ location, a travelling food van or cafe servicing community events, a mobile medical clinic for remote areas, a mobile classroom for rural communities, a school excursion bus and a tourist bus.
Retired buses have been recycled and turned into unique attractions all over the world.
In London, a bus was converted into a "bicycle library" to facilitate lending bicycles and cycling accessories to riders for trial or use.
In New York, a book shop owner who couldn't afford a shop converted an old school bus into a bus book shop.
Buses have also been converted into refurbished homes, travelling art galleries and city icons.
