Youngsters to access vital teachings

BEING able has always been a key lesson for Aussie youngsters and aquatic centres across the Banana Shire are determined to achieve this goal.

The Biloela, Moura and Taroom aquatic centres are running their Intensive Learn to Swim program throughout January.

Sarah Morris, from the Biloela Aquatic Centre, said the two-week block course, (January 13-17, 20-24) had been a hit with the kids since 2006 when she first moved to the area.

“They are popular and especially for kids that live remotely or out of town,” Mrs Morris said.

“Also for kids that do other sports like competitive dancing or cricket will come and do intensive week to get lots of practice in a short period of time.”

Under the instruction of Austswim coaches, both beginner and advanced swimmers are catered for each lesson which is held at the same time over the week block.

“The idea is that the kids repat the skills and get them nailed in over the five days,” Mrs Morris said.

“Often families will use them for kids struggling to pick up a skill.

“So the come in everyday and regularly they have nailed that skill by the end of it.”

The registration cost per week is $65 for an aquatic centre season pass holder or $75 for non-pass holders, which Mrs Morris believes is a really cost-effective way to have swimming lessons.

The Biloela Aquatic Centre’s 10-week term lesson program also kicks-off on January 27.
