Your chance to give CQ football club a name
FOOTBALL: Every sporting team in every code has a signature nickname, whether it be the Queensland Roar or the Brisbane Lions, and Joe Fenech wants you to come up with Central Queensland Football's.
The CQ Football Club is reaching out to the community this month in the hope of gaining inspiration for the new Australian Premier League team's club nickname.
The club is giving CQ supporters the chance to give a local voice to the team, and of course, one lucky person will gain bragging rights of naming the side.
Fenech, CQFC senior head coach and technical director of football, said that because CQFC is a club representing the CQ region, it would like to get the community's ideas on how we will be represented to the nation.
"It creates a sense of belonging and community engagement," Fenech said.
"Supporters could even suggest a theme song for the team."
Nominators are asked to suggest a name which is common to the CQ region and something that the rest of Australia can relate to our community.
Also taken into consideration should be whether the nickname can represent both the men's and women's teams as well as younger age groups.
"Nominators also need to be mindful that by 2018, we could possibly be represented in the A-League football competition and it needs to be a name that can be represented on a national level," Fenech said.
Team nickname nominations need to be in by November 9.
