Voting opens for Monopoly Australia Edition

HOT on the heels of the Brisbane edition of Monopoly, which was released last week, the nominations are in for properties on the Monopoly Australia Edition.

Forty destinations from across Australia - the Sunshine Coast included - have been nominated to feature on the re-imagined board game, but there's a catch - there's only space for 22.

A public vote will decide which locations - from Margaret River to the Great Ocean Road, Byron Bay, the Whitsundays and Alice Springs - will make it onto the board, and where they will sit.

The destination with the most votes will take the coveted, dark blue Mayfair position on the board, to be released by Hasbro Australia next year.

The game will also include Australia-themed tokens.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said an Australian Monopoly board wouldn't be complete without the Sunshine Coast.

"With our beautiful hinterland, highlighted by the world-famous, heritage-listed Glass House Mountains, our wonderful coastline and beaches, picturesque towns and villages and friendly residents, it's no wonder we have more people than ever coming here to live and visit," he said.

"It's the most spectacular destination in the country."
