You're the Voice stand tall
BEACH VOLLEYBALL: It wasn't a day about winning, but to Jennifer Harris and her team, it was all important.
Her team, You're the Voice overcame Sababan 27-20 to take out the Livin Beach Volleyball Charity Day at the Indoor Sports Arena in Rockhampton.
The day, entirely to raise awareness for mental health, meant a lot to the team captain.
"Absolutely its an important day,” she replied.
"Winning something like today is perhaps even more special knowing the message that it represents.”
Her team met arch rivals of 10 years, Sababan in a quality play off.
"We felt like we grew every game. As a team we played as best as we could in the final and got there,” she said.
"The standard was great, really high competition from all the sides.
"We play regularly. I had my brother and Mum join in. We both learnt our skills from Mum.”
Organiser Knoxie Paul believed they smashed their goal of raising for $3,000 for the charity.
"Just through registration we have sold over 400 raffle tickets, I am not real flash with maths but we should have smashed our goal of $3,000. Really happy with that,” he said.
"Everyone has had a really fun day, the weather was perfect, not too hot. ISC here put on a great draw, everyone got a few games and had a great time.
"The standard has been surprisingly good, these guys on court in the final are pros.
"We had a chat at the start and since then people have shared their stories, its something a lot of people can relate to or have had to deal with.”
