Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia Keith Pitt says there is unfortunately a “real shortfall” in regional farm workers despite the support and encouragement from the Commonwealth.
“These are not just jobs picking mangoes, picking fruit, packing and lugging things about,” Mr Pitt told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“They need some pretty technical skills, there’s a lot of really expensive equipment that needs to be operated; there’s work in pack houses and administration and graphic design”.
“There’s a career for agriculture for Australians, so get yourself out there – there’s a lot of encouragement and support from the Commonwealth to make that happen”.
“But unfortunately, there’s a real shortfall.”
